On July 29, 2024, the auditorium at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Shaheed Path, Golf City, Lucknow, resonated with the soulful melodies of Padma Shri and SNA awardee Vidushi Sumitra Guha. The event, supported by SPIC MACAY and various foundations, was a cultural feast for the students and staff, showcasing the depth and beauty of Indian classical music.

Vidushi Sumitra Guha, renowned for her mastery in both Carnatic and Hindustani music, began her performance with an introduction to Raag Bhairav. She beautifully rendered the famous bandish “Albela Sajan Aayo Re,” captivating the audience with her intricate and emotive style. Her rendition highlighted the spiritual essence and technical prowess that have become her signature. Following this, she performed a self-composed song that further showcased her versatility and creativity in classical music.

Accompanying her were talented artists: Mr. Suman Chatterjee on Tabla, Ms. Renu on Tanpura  and Mr. Sumit Mishra on Harmonium. Their skilled accompaniment added depth and richness to the performance, creating a harmonious and immersive musical experience.

The event concluded with an engaging question and answer session. Students eagerly asked Vidushi Guha various questions about Indian classical music, including how one can pursue professional training, the significance of the Guru-Shishya parampara, and tips on improving their singing. Vidushi Guha’s responses were insightful and inspiring, encouraging young minds to appreciate and delve deeper into the rich heritage of Indian classical music.
