“The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
The second edition of the Model United Nations (MUN) was successfully held at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow, on the 19th and 20th of October, 2024. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 310 students from more than ten schools across the region, creating a dynamic platform for young minds to explore, debate, and propose solutions to pressing global challenges.
The event comprised eight diverse committees: Lok Sabha, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), World Health Organization (WHO), Supreme People’s Assembly, and International Press. Each committee engaged the delegates in thought-provoking discussions and intense deliberations, fostering a deeper understanding of global issues. The two-day conference featured five committee sessions, making it an extensive yet thought-provoking experience. The rigorous schedule challenged participants to critically examine issues, collaborate on viable resolutions.
The MUN began with an inspiring address by the Principal Ms. Poonam Kochitty. She emphasized the importance of discipline and highlighted that the true purpose of such events is to cultivate awareness of international concerns. She encouraged students to actively participate in discussions and develop solutions that could contribute to the betterment of the world.
One of the key aspects that set this MUN apart was that it was a student-led event, providing participants with invaluable practical experience in managing various aspects of the conference. From content creation and writing, logistics, delegate affairs, and social media management to sponsorship handling, editing, and graphics design, students learned how to coordinate and execute tasks efficiently, ensuring the event’s smooth functioning.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the presence of Mr. Satya Prakash Patel, an IAS officer from the 2013 batch and Special Secretary for Urban Development, who graced the event as the Chief Guest. His words of encouragement motivated the young delegates to continue their journey of learning and civic engagement, reinforcing the significance of youth involvement in addressing societal issues.
The two-day conference served as an excellent platform for students to think critically, collaborate, and engage in meaningful dialogue. The event not only enhanced their understanding of diplomacy and international relations but also honed their problem-solving abilities and public-speaking skills. The second edition of MUN at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School concluded on a positive note, leaving participants enriched with new perspectives and a renewed sense of global responsibility.
